The City of Baxter is proud to offer combination smoke/carbon monoxide alarms at no cost to qualifying City of Baxter residents. This program is administered by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and is designed to support individuals and families across the city who cannot afford to purchase alarms to protect their homes. Provided alarms are wireless, with a 10-year lithium ion battery and have interconnecting capabilities. Units will be installed in your home by fire department staff.

Criteria to qualify for free smoke/CO alarms:

  • You are within the Baxter city limits.
  • You own and reside in your home.
    • Tennessee state law requires landlords to provide adequate smoke and CO alarms in all rental units.
  •     Your home is not new construction.
  •     Your home does not have any alarms OR your alarms are more than 10 years old.
  • Any alarms currently in your home are wireless and battery powered, NOT hardwired.
    • We are unable to remove and replace hardwired alarms as the alarms we offer are wireless and do not provide the same level of protection.

You may request alarms by calling (931) 858-2621
